Description:
Rolex 'Monoblocco' Ref 3525 a stainless steel chronograph wrist watch circa 1940. Dial: silvered, Arabic numerals, two subsidiary dials indicating constant seconds and 30-minute register, outer scales for telemeter and tachometer. Calibre: manual winding, 17 jewels. Case: stainless steel round two-piece oyster case, screw down crown and case back. Case number: 128413. Dimensions: 35 mm diameter. Signed: case, dial and movement. Accessories: none. Footnote. The 3525 was one of the models that Rolex sent to British military men held in German imprisonment camps during the war. Under an enterprising arrangement, Rolex offered their watches instantly and benevolently accepted payment when feasible later on. Some British officers ordering Rolex watches this way later became known for taking part in a mass escape from the German prison camp Stalag Luft III in 1944. This event was the inspiration behind the 1963 film 'The great Escape', starring Steve McQueen. Referred to as 'Monoblocco' by Collectors, the upper case including bezel and lugs is made from one piece only.
