Pair of good early Victorian sterling silver tureens and covers, hallmarked London, 1838, Rg (Robert Garrard II of R. & S. Garrard & Co), of lobed form, the ribbed cover set with large finial containing artichokes with an onion and foliage, above a family crest containing a crown above a shield, flanked by two rearing horses, above ribbon with script reading 'Hoc signo vinces', accented with gadrooned border to tureen, total weight 3937gm, height 17 cm and diameter 28 cm (2) catalogue note: similar sold Sotheby's New York, European furniture, silver, & ceramics, 19th April 2021, lot 186.
