A Japanese Satsuma dish by Kanzan, Meiji period (1868-1912), finely decorated in polychrome enamels and gilt on a clear crackle glaze with a scalloped vignette of a figure working outside the grounds of temple or compound, surrounded by blooming wisteria, the scene encircled by a ribbon of cobalt blue and gilt hollyhocks and vines. The underside in rich cobalt blue glaze and central reserve with Satsuma mon and signed Kanzan in square reserve. 18.5 cm diameter
