A late 19th century Maori carved wooden panel, painted red, the top half featuring a carved weku-type face with heart shaped mouth, wide double spirals to lips, protruding tongue and notched teeth, paua inserts to eyes, plain base. 30 x 104 cm. Provenance: Ex. Queen Victoria school for Maori girls, Parnell, Auckland, which opened in 1902.
