An impressive hardwood and shibayama style inlaid gold lacquer Shodana display cabinet, Meiji period, fitted with an asymmetrical arrangement of cupboards, with sliding panels, doors and drawer fronts, decorated in ivory and mother of pearl inlay on gold lacquer with legendary figure scenes, landscapes and pairs of Mandarin ducks, and further embellished with carved and pierced ivory spandrels, the back carved and pierced with peacocks and birds among floral branches and surmounted by an openwork crest with a figure riding on a phoenix, 235 cm high, 135 cm wide, 57 cm deep
