A fine and rare Chelsea porcelain 'Hans Sloane' type shaped circular plate, painted with Acacia Americana botanicals, butterflies and insects. English circa 1755/6. Provenance: Robyn Robb England 17/06/2009 (11,500 pounds). Robert Burke collection no 130. The decoration on this plate is adapted from an illustration in 'Figures of the Most Beautiful, Useful and Uncommon Plants' described in the Gardeners Dictionary' by Phillip Miller, plate V. Although the plant was described then as 'Acacia Americana' it is now called 'Callandra Houstonia'. The engraving it was based on was signed by G D Ehret dated March 1755. 20.7 cm diameter
