A board of ordnance gunpowder keg, Queen Victoria, land wars period, a rare board of ordnance cast iron Gunpowder Keg, with front facing board of ordnance Armorials, dated 1855 and with 'Broad Arrow' mark, 99 x 69 cm, depth 61 cm. This type of keg was used for storing gun powder at British forts and barracks through out the British colonies. A rare example from the New Zealand 1860s land wars period. The keg would have been left behind by the British Regiments when they were withdrawn from New Zealand in 1869 - 1870. Few examples are recorded as surviving worldwide.
