Taiaha, a long fighting staff 19th century or earlier, carved from dark reddish wood with plain shaft tapering into broad blade. Finely carved upoko and arero, features double rauponga spiral pattern of p?kati and haehae, plain eyes. Lip features three notches each side resembling teeth. Partial old sticker label on blade end, writing indecipherable. Length 106 cm. Provenance: Estate of John Lawford.
