Christopher Dresser design claret jug, c.1880's, attributed to Hukin and Heath London, the jug has a silver plated mount with ebonised wood, handle with tapered glass bowl and cut glass base. Height 23.5 cm. Dr Christopher Dresser (1834-1904) was a designer and design theorist, now widely considered as one, of the first, and most important independent designers, a pivotal figure in the Aesthetic movement and a major contributor to the modern English style of the second part of the 19th century.
