Description:
Rare, and significant Paraiba tourmaline hand made ring in 18ct white gold. 8.83ct cushion cut, copper bearing, Paraiba type tourmaline of Nigerian origin as per Gfgr gem report 023032, accented with one hundred and eighteen, cushion, oval and round brilliant cut diamonds, of reported total weight 4.07 cts, D - E - F colour, VVS clarity. Ring size O. Paraiba Tourmalines, are one of the most rare and expensive gemstones in the world, known for their neon blue colour, result of a combination between boron and copper, with a high concentration of copper responsible for the radiant blue and green hues. The stone was discovered in the 1980s in the Paraiba region of Brazil by Heitor Dimas Barbosa and his team. The discovery led to frantic mining activity on Paraiba hill, but five years after the discovery, no tourmaline deposits were found, where this mine is now closed. In 2001, a bright blue tourmaline was also discovered in Nigeria, which took the market by storm. Both stones had to undergo the intense burning process to reveal their true, bright blue self, just like their Brazilian counterparts. Newer lots of the precious stone have been discovered in other areas of Brazil and Mozambique, providing a positive sign for gemstone dealers struggling to meet the immense demand for this rare gem
