A Japanese Koto Ware vase, Meiji period, circa 1850s, impressive quatrefoil vase in red and overglaze gold, the ovoid base with main decorations of chrysanthemum sprays and plum blossom, the square neck section with alternating designs of a Ho-o (phoenix) and dragon spinning amongst clouds and applique gold enamel handles on the opposing sides, with signed tomobako presentation box. 33 cm high
