Photographer unidentified, panoramic photograph of Parramatta river and Sydney harbour from Balmain, 1890s. A stunning late 19th century Sydney view. Probably taken from the clock tower of the Balmain town hall, it directly overlooks the suburbs of Balmain and Birchgrove, looking across to Greenwich and Ball's head, with cockatoo Island and the Sobraon training ship also prominent. The sweep of the view is enormous, extending from the old Gladesville bridge in the west all the way across to Fort Denison. Comprised of several contiguous gelatin silver prints. Originally rolled-up as a scroll, this impressive panorama has never been mounted. It is now presented unrolled, carefully held in place between archival plastic and an archival board support. Some vertical creasing and minor silverfishing, but the prints are strong and with sharp detail., gelatin silver print on archival board, 25 x 200 cm
