A Len Castle avian bowl, made from earthenware. With an alkaline glaze to the interior, and a oxide textured exterior. Features maker's mark to base. Castle (1924 - 2011) is one the most recognisable and well versed figures in New Zealand applied arts. His spectacular forms, often taking inspiration from geothermal activity and landscapes, revolutionised studio pottery, height 8.5 cm, depth 22.5 cm
