A rare collection of 22 19th century New Zealand historical 'Collector of Customs' proof impression sealing wax seals, each in red wax with British coat of arms above names of various New Zealand towns: Akaroa, Auckland 1/2, Auckland 2/2, Bluff harbour, Dunedin, Havelock, Hokianga, Hokititka, Invercargill, Mongonui, Napier, Nelson, new Plymouth, Oamaru, onehunga, Picton, Riverton, Russell, Timaru, Wairau, Wangarei, Wellington. Each approx. 4.5 x 4.5 cm. Note: New Zealand Customs department was established on 5 January 1840, when the first head of Customs was appointed in Kororareka, bay of Islands. The departments primary function when it was established was to gather revenue for the government.
