A commemorative ship model produced for Thos. & Jno Brocklebank Ltd., 1935, the model in painted metal stamped in relief underneath, 'Brocklebanks 1770 onwards', 17.5 cm long, Note, One of the oldest firms in merchant shipping, Thos. & Jno Brocklebank Ltd., was founded in 1801 by the sons of Captain Daniel Brocklebank, shipbuilder and master mariner who commenced his enterprise near Portland Maine, North America, in 1770. The business moved to Whitehaven five years later and then to Liverpool remaining family run until 1911. By 1935, the firm had been majority acquired by Cunard Lines.
