A small orator's stool, Middle Sepik River Region, Papua New Guinea, the ancestral figure with applied clay patterning the enlarged face and cowrie shell eyes, bordered by money cowrie shells, feathers protruding from the head and chin, woven rattan 'tassels' dangling from the exaggerated ears, repeated painted motifs in vegetable pigment paint across the carved armbands and down the outer legs, seated upon a stool in the form of backwards squatting legs, 150 cm high
