Donald F. Thomson (1901 - 1970) in Arnhem Land, 1934: An original photograph, with Herald Feature Service h/stamp and explanatory label affixed verso, 'Aborigines in full war paint, carrying fearsome weapons, perform their special corroboree for the Duke. The display took place at the mission camp, about a mile from the railway line, at Ooldea.', 16.5 x 21.5 cm. Prince Henry, the Duke of Gloucester visited Ooldea in October 1934. He was in Australia primarily on the occasion of the Centenary of Melbourne and Victoria. Besides witnessing the aboriginal 'welcome salute', he also met Daisy Bates. He was later to become Australian Governor General, 1945-47.
