Rare Trobriand Islands 'Sakusaku/Munkuris' Kula canoe prow ornament, c.1950s, decorated in tones of black, red and white, 56 cm x 40 cm catalogue note: the term 'Sakusaku' seems to come from the Trobriands, while the same item is called 'Munkuris' in Gawa and the Marshall Bennett Islands. This old example 1950s or earlier, is carved in the form of four pairs of opposed birds and bird heads, stacked above each other.
