Late 19th century French ormolu mounted bureau plat a fine and imposing desk, in the manner of Jules Allard. Richly decorated with gilt bronze mounts displayed against diagonally grained kingwood veneers, enhanced with banding, over an oak carcass. The serpentine top having a leather insert with tooled gilt embellishments to the borders, edged with cast rococo crested trim. The sweeping apron fitted with three drawers to one side, and corresponding dummy drawers to the other, raised on fine triangular section cabriole legs adorned with espagnolettes and lavish scrolling foliate mounts. 78 x 154 x 85 cm
