An impressive Victorian heavy 18ct gold large 'Railway Timekeeper' hunter pocket watch, made especially for the U.S market by William Baker Crisp of London working 1851 ' 1881, the exterior with mildly relief image of the historic U.S. Capitol Building, a lakeside castle to the reverse. The white enamel dial with makers name and 'Railway Timekeeper', Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds dial. The fusee movement with maker's name and numbered 13620. diameter 62.5 cm. Note: The U.S. Capitol Building is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the USA. It has housed the meeting chambers of the Senate and the House of Representatives for over two centuries. Provenance: Gifted by Sir Robert Anderson of Invercargill fame to our vendor's father who ran N. J. M. Rein Ltd, Jewellers, Invercargill on Anderson's behalf.
