An exceptional Victorian inlaid deed box, the hinged lid parquetry inlaid with a trophy group of birds, quivers of arrows and fruiting boughs, the sides in parquetry tumbling block design, the interior fitted with a plain hinged lid revealing sectional compartments, lined with blue moire taffeta. An old label affixed to the base printed with an Earl's coronet and initials M.C.D. Probably Lord Derby(Stanley). The gilt key with horseshoe head. 32 x 22 x 14 cm.
