18ct gold open face pocket watch by Joseph Johnson, Liverpool, number 5197, the 53 mm chased and engraved case, Chester assay 18ct without date mark, case maker's mark TH/JH, c.1845. Three colour gold dial, with chased and engraved centre, matt chapter ring with raised Roman numerals within an outer border of scrolls and flowerheads. Subsidiary seconds dial at VI with wavy guilloche pattern. The signed and numbered movement with 'Liverpool Window' jewelling to entire train, lever escapement, uncut bimetallic balance, compensation curb. Gilt dust cap. Winding cover engraved with owner's name. 170gm. On a watch chain of various links, some marked 9ct, some unmarked, with T-bar incorporating a concealed watch key. 134gm (watch only)
