Victorian 18ct gold hunter pocket watch Barraud and Lund, Cornhill London, No.2/9485 48 mm case, hallmarked London 1868, signed and numbered dial and movement, matched numbered case. Key wind ¾ plate fusee movement with lever escapement. Casemaker's mark WR, probably William Rowlands. 85gm. Barraud and Lund are recognised as one of the finest makers of the nineteenth century. The partnership founded in 1838 between Frederick Joseph Barraud and John Richard Lund. Barraud son of famous clockmaker, Paul Philip Barraud, and Lund a horological inventor who had been apprenticed to John Pennington. They developed a thriving international business, including an office in Calcutta. Barraud died in 1859 and Lund in 1868, with members of both families continuing the business thereafter.
