A large German silver gilt casket in Louis XV style, unidentified maker (marked to the cover and underside), Hanau, mid-19th century, rectangular with swelling sides on low feet, repousse C scroll and foliate decoration throughout, the hinged cover with inset glazed frame enclosing a scene of the birth of Adonis finely painted in gouache on paper after Francois Boucher, the fabric lined interior with a mirror to the underside of the cover, 17 cm high, 34.5 cm wide, 27.5 cm deep
