A Tuluma, Tokelau Islands, circa 19th century. Used to keep items dry whilst at sea, or as a storage container on land. The cord allows the lid to remain connected to the box should it be dropped at sea. Most tuluma in Tokelau are made from the wood of the kanava tree, height 14.5 cm, width 17 cm, depth 4.5 cm
