An historic carved teak walking stick with silver ferrule engraved with commemorative inscription for the wreck of the S.S. Wairarapa on Great Barrier Island 1894 with the loss of 137 lives, Presumably made with salvaged teak, the intricate carving incorporates 'sailor's knot' designs at the top above a section of chevrons and the shaft entirely carved with a trellis of intaglio pyramids. Surmounted by a silver cap monogrammed JAB, length 4 cm.
