A knotted pile carpet, Khotan, East Turkestan, late 19th century, a characteristic example of the beautiful carpets from the Khotan oasis that are woven in a repeating design of stylised pomegranates and branches growing out of a small vase at each end of the field; all contained by a series of four outer borders with geometric motifs typical of Central Asian weaving.
