Description:
A pair of Sevres porcelain vases ('Vase Etrusque'), circa 1770 blue interlaced L's mark, of inverted baluster outline with scroll and beaded handles terminating in bell flowers, the bleu Nouveau ground with gilt ribbon tied oak garlands around an oval reserve painted in colours with quayside scenes with sailors, officers and shipping, the reverse with floral still lifes of roses and other flowers, attributed to Jean-Louis Morin, on gilt metal plinths. Height 30.5 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, Sydney. Other Notes: the Royal collection has a pair of larger vases of the same design in the music room, Buckingham Palace, and another example with military scenes, (originally one of a pair) both purchased by George IV from the estate of his mother Queen Charlotte.
