A Jizhou 'tortoiseshell' glazed jar/vase in 13th century Southern Song style, with cylindrical swollen sides rounding up towards the rim, four incipient lug handles at the shoulder, covered inside and out with a rich dark brown glaze liberally splashed in translucent golden glaze in imitation of mottled tortoiseshell, the glaze ending short of the knife-pared foot to expose the buff-coloured body. Small edge frits inside the foot ring. Height 23 cm
