An antique Malay silver modesty disc (caping) of heart shape. The main decorative border is embedded with a row of padi seeds followed by a row of embossed dots inside a thin border. The central shield adorned with floral decoration. With original silver chain (50 cm long). Terengganu, Northeast Malaysia, circa 1900. Private collection, Melbourne. Acquired in Singapore in 1980. 7 cm high, 6.5 cm wide, 31 grams. Note: the last known cases of babies wearing the caping was during the reign of Sultan Mohamad IV (1899-1920). Thereafter the caping ceased to be popular.
