Fine French 18th century Regency gilt bronze and and kingwood tulipwood Arc-en-Arbalete commode, c.1720, in the manner of Etienne Doirat, with a shaped fior di pesco marble top, above a pair of shaped drawers, above two long drawers, set with herringbone veneers and accented with ormolu handles and escutcheons, the whole raised on cabriole legs, accented with maiden mask ormolu mounts, 84 cm x 111 cm x 63 cm.. Provenance: de Loisne Chateau, Pas de Calais, Andre & Cecile Fink,1987, then the Estate of the late Fernande Glynn, a well known Australian actress that appeared in classic Australian TV dramas Homicide, hunter and Riptide. Catalogue note: this commode is a magnificent example of the type of commodes produced in the manner of Etienne Doirat (circa 1675-1732) in the Regence period. The relation to the work of Doirat can be made on the basis of overall form and kingwood parquetry and the gilt-bronze mounts, which are used on several occasions in his oeuvre (see J.-D. Augarde, op.cit., p.45). Similar: Sotheby's, lot 128, 12th November 2019.
