A Kapkap breastplate, Santa Cruz Solomon Islands, Kapkaps were often worn by high status individuals due to its precious materality. A polished clam shell disc. With incised detailing and black pigment around the edges of the disc. With a central overlay in tortoise shell of a stylised frigate bird below depictions of four fish. Lashed together with plant fibre cord with shell toggle. Length 41.5 cm, depth 9.1 cm
