A Kali Hahapo headrest, Tonga, late 19th century. Placed under the head or the back of a neck whilst sleeping or resting. Carved from a single piece of hardwood without joins. A tall form with flared sides to the neckrest. Arched legs that form small wedge feet at the base. Observable notches to the underside from the woodworking tools used by the artist. Remnants of a dark brown patina. Height 14.5 cm, width 27.5 cm, depth 13.2 cm
