I'e barkcloth beater, Tonga, used to pound inner strips of mulberry tree bark into large sheets for producing tapa cloth. Carved from a single piece of hardwood. A long form with a square cross section that tapers to the handle. Three sides of the i'e have long incised grooves running up the shaft. Remnants of a dark brown patina throughout the form and splashes of dye at the handle. Length 31.7 cm, width 6.3 cm
