A pa kahawai fishing hook, Aotearoa, used for trolling for fish. A paua shell shank inlaid into the interior curve of a native timber and lashed with woven muka fibre. Paper label on the back reads 'Maori fish hook lined with haliotis shell (venus' ear) cord of native flax. Bone barb. R.H.S.S.' length 13.7 cm, width 2.4 cm, depth 1.3 cm.
