A patu aruhe, Aotearoa, made from a dense brown wood. This pounder is used for beating rauaruhe fern down to extract the edible flesh from the fibres. This patu has a circular cross section that tapers up to where the handle terminates. Written in white ink on the handle is a 'B'. Length 28 cm, width 7 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, Aotearoa
