A pounamu hei tiki by Alan brown (ngati Ruaka), a superbly carved 20th century example of the classic type I hei tiki form made in chatoyant inanga variety stone from the Arahura river. The head displays a rightward orientation with deeply recessed eyes and a finely rendered nose and tongue upon a delineated neck with three ribs to the torso and three fingered hands with thumbs placed on the thighs.
