Rare and important Chatham Islands Morori stone effigy petroglyph carving, pecked volcanic stone of ovoid form with a human figure carved in low relief. The figure with triangular shaped head with large eyes and with bent upraised arms with splayed legs. Similar in composition to the dendroglyph carvings seen on the bark of the kopi trees on the Chatham Islands.19th century or earlier. Another similar example illustrated in the Mororis of the Chatham Islands by H D Skinner, plate IV. Recently repatriated to New Zealand from America. 15 cm diameter.
