Thomas ball, Karaka, watercolour heightened with white, signed & dated '88 (lower centre); inscribed with title (lower left), 21.5 x 31 cm (oval). Provenance: Thomas Ball's Karaka depicts the house owned with his wife and two children in Karaka (creek) in the coromandel, during this time George Valentine painted the pink & white terraces based on Ball's memories of them pre-destruction. The painting of the house was exhibited on the popularity of his pink and white terraces at the canterbury Galleries from 1902-1906. 'Karaka' sold for 6 pounds in canterbury 1891 and 12 pounds during a travelling exhibition in 1898.
