King Louis XIV - the child King (1638 - 1715): Louis XIV became 'King' in May 1643, at the age of four. His reign of 72 years and 110 days is the longest recorded of any monarch of a sovereign country in history. (Queen Elizabeth is still in her 70th year!). The present document is a note prepared on behalf of the infant King for signing and delivery by his mother, the Queen regent. The subject of the letter to Marshall de Breze concerns the raising of recruits in the local area, with the recommendation that they be recognized and that they act with the king's authority.... Attractively framed & glazed, together with a reproduction photograph of a painting of Louis XIV in adulthood. Overall 54 x 63 cm.
