Fine pearl shell pendant, Kimberley Region, Western Australia, carved and engraved pearl shell, in-filled with red ochre. These beautiful Kimberley pearl shell pendants are usually incised with intricate patterns on their convex surface. The patterns represent mythological themes associated with rain. The pendants are highly valued as objects of exchange and are traded many hundreds of miles from the Kimberleys into Central Australia. Approx 16.5 x 12 cm.
