Description:
Fine hooked boomerang, Tennant Creek, Northern Territory. Carved and engraved hardwood and natural pigments. Hooked boomerangs typical of the desert. They were used with advantage in fighting, as the hook caught on the edge of the shields, causing the boomerang to swing around behind it. These were finely fluted on their upper surfaces with reverse adzed markings and rubbed with red ochre. Extra decoration was added to the head only. Approx length 72 x 20 cm. Provenance: Adelaide antique Auctions, Adelaide. Private Collection, South Australia.
