Superb early incised parrying shield, lower Murray River Region, New South Wales. Carved and engraved hardwood and natural pigment. Early nineteenth century. Parrying shield of bi-convex section and elongated triangular profile, with solid cut handle, showing beautifully carved sections of chevron and linear motifs emphasised by the surrounding smooth surface, terminating with undecorated bosses on the upper and lower face.
