Description:
A Chinese Qing dynasty temple jar possibly Kangxi period, 18th century ., of baluster shape with high rounded shoulders tapering to a waisted spreading foot. Decorated in iron red with lotus scrolls. The base marked with an artemisia leaf within a double circle. With associated pierced wood cover and stand, height 32.5 cm excl stand and cover. Note: For a brief time in the Kangxi period the use of reign marks on porcelain was forbidden, hence the occurrence of marks simply comprising of empty underglaze blue double circles, or the use of auspicious symbols in underglaze blue such as an artemisia leaf, a lingzhi mushroom or the head of a ruyi.
