A late 17th century brass lantern clock by Jos Townsend, Helmdon, (Northamptonshire. England), with strapped bell over three pierced frets and four urn finials, tapering Doric corner columns on turned feet, oversailing silvered Roman chapter ring enclosing engraved acanthus engraved decoration, single hour hand, hinged side panels, converted verge pendulum movement, with chain and lead weight, height 39 cm (15½'). Provenance: Purchased at auction from the estate collection of William Angus, former honorary horologist to the Auckland Museum, sold at Cordy's in 1990 (lot 197, $3060).
