John Weeks (UK New Zealand 1888-1965) 'Cloth hall ruins, Ypres' watercolour, signed, titled in pencil verso 12 x 16.7 cm. Considerable work damage to left side of image. Two companion works sold 2016, international Art centre auction. John Weeks served with the New Zealand field ambulance of the New Zealand medical Corps in World War I and sustained injuries. Auckland Museum holds seven small watercolours painted whilst on active service in 1918. After the war, Weeks joined with fellow artists Francis McCracken and Robert Johnson touring 250 paintings and drawings throughout New Zealand in the Soldiers' exhibition
