Early fine Magical Pig-Stone, Ambrym Island, Vanuatu. Carved and engraved stone. Stylized human face effigy. These small figures were used in magical rituals revolving around the embellishment of ones pigs and the increase in their numbers. Some stones could even, depending on their owners mastery, eat pigs and make them disappear. Turtles were also used as important wealth items in far gone days and the stones were used in magical rituals relating to them as well, length 24 x 10.5 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, Queensland
