A set of five Japanese urushi lacquer bowls and covers decorated in maki-e (raised gold lacquer) on a cinnamon ground, each painted with individual birds and flowers, (swans and irises; songbird and peonies; white-eye and chrysanthemums; etc.) the bases decorated with conforming flowers and foliage. Contrasting deep brown interior lacquer, the inside of the covers gilded with a peacock butterfly and a goldwing moth. (some occasional minute gilt loss), diameter 13 cm.
