Meiji period (1868-1912) - the hinged tusk body finely inlaid in mother-of-pearl depicting a bird bathing amidst sprays of blossoming peony branches and butterflies, with silver-plated bun feet and plain sides, the front latch opening to reveal a complete French silver sewing set on two levels with storage compartment below with engraved needle case, thimble, scissors etc. With boar head purity mark and unidentified maker's mark Cg in lozenge. height6.5 cm, L: 15.5 cm, W: 7 cm
