A Northern New Ireland Tatanua helmet mask, early 20th century, alstonia wood, shell, bark, cloth, cane, chalk and pigments, modern metal stand, height 44 cm excluding stand. Provenance: Hurst gallery, Cambridge, Massachusetts USA (gallery number to the inside of the mask HI593), acquired from the above. Other Notes: Norman Hurst (1944- 2011) was a pioneer of the thematic exhibition, who always published informed and well researched catalogues to accompany the many important pieces he collected.
